Painting my influences

My work is shaped by a wide range of influences: traditionalists, rebels, innovators, and rule-breakers. There’s always something energising to absorb from each of them, as well as finding new and unexpected discoveries along the way.

The paintings here represent some of the artists who have affected me in different ways. By creating my own tributes to their work — cover versions, I suppose — I’m able to step into their mindset and get under the surface of their paint. This process (using modern photographs as reference) helps me understand each artist in a real, material way, through the role of making rather than observation alone.
